Why I started this Blog: A Year Later (Almost)

I started this blog to allow those visiting my portfolio a better understanding of me as a person as well as to chronicle my newly begun journey (The obligatory first blog post) . In addition, I wanted to create a place that would have relevant insight for young costumers like myself. There are plenty of things they do not teach you in undergrad about the industry, and it can be difficult to find answers specifically geared towards costuming.

Out with the Old

In with the New!

As you can see I have been up to some spring cleaning on my portfolio site. I'm not sure if I am happy with the new arrangement, but I am giving it a while to grow on me. While reorganizing not only my site, but my resume I had to make some cuts. Editing is a big part of designing, whether it be during the actual process, or later, creating the portfolio pages of your design.

If you wander on over to my resume you will see it got a facelift. I took out some old experiences and rearranged the format to follow what I am marketing myself as: Designer. I took out my dresser experiences as well as some old stitcher positions since ultimately that is not what I want to do with my career. I can always put them back in depending on the situation (it's always great to have a few different versions of your resume on hand for different jobs). The flow is a little easier on the eye and my experiences are not as cramped as they used to be. They have room to comfortably get my skills across to an interviewer.

Let me know what you think of my spring cleaning in the comments. I'd enjoy your constructive feedback.

Last week we discussed finding costumes and pieces at thrift shops (follow link to article) to fill out a costume design. There was so much info I had to break the article into two pieces. This one focuses mainly on "free" things that you can find; in actors' closets, theatre stock, or donations!

Recently I have been budgeting for graduate school. Creating my own little budget got me thinking about costumers who must work with a measly amount of money to create masterpieces on stage. It can be done, but needs a few tips and tricks to look perfect.
