Quick Guide to Car Trunk Tetris
Every time I pack up my little compact car to travel to a summer stock, school, etc. I am reminded of tetris, or jenga depending on how the packing has went. Two years ago about this time I was about to pack up my little automobile again to travel across the country to graduate school. I thought I'd create a bit of a packing quick guide for people who are constantly cramming their whole lives into the trunk and back seat of their cars. (This is geared more towards summer stock packers)
Determine if you need to bring it
in the first place. Some summer stocks provide many of the essentials. This past summer stock provided towels, linens, a pillow, cooking equipment, etc. I brought my own blanket and pillows because I am a woman of habit, but I didn't have to haul many of the things pictured to the left. They provided a cooking sheet, pots, pans, plates, etc. If there are certain things you can't live without by all means bring them, but check with the company manager before packing to see what is provided. You will save some valuable space for other things you want to bring.
Box it up
or bag it up. Really it is important if you have an oddly shaped trunk like I do, to put your belongings in small boxes that can be tetris'd together. This allows you to take advantage of every nook and cranny in your trunk. Shopping bags also help with the nook and cranny fitting as well. Clothing and hangers can fit nicely in some shopping bags for obvious reasons. Just make sure to bundle breakable things in boxes so they have a buffer.
your boxes and bags. Then keep them for each time you move around. If you are constantly moving to summer stocks it helps to have your boxes and bags all ready. You don't have to reorganize your belongings and trunk every time you pack up, you'll know what fits in where.
